The Council for Restorative Justice
works to promote the implementation of restorative justice. Specifically, the Council for Restorative Justice seeks to address the needs of victims and victim-survivors in the criminal justice system.
To accomplish this end, the Council for Restorative Justice trains and supports individuals to act as defense-initiated victim outreach (DIVO) specialists and victim-offender mediators in criminal cases.
The Council for Restorative Justice was the first state-wide effort to provide defense-initiated victim outreach services.
The Council for Restorative Justice seeks to develop partnerships with all members of the criminal justice system, victims’ groups and advocates, and communities.
In November 2008, we began a pilot program, funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, to support the development and implementation of DIVO in state level cases in Texas and Louisiana. You can reach our expert consultants and partners in Texas and Louisiana on our Contacts page.
